FyndIt is a service that helps you find stuff and gets you paid to help find stuff for others. And, along the way, meet people with similar interests, find good advice or find out you're an expert at giving it!
It's simple. You can't find something. Some one finds it for you, you give them a cash "bounty" to say thanks. Doesn't have to be big. But we're always grateful, when someone helps us find what we're looking for!
And on the other side, there are those people who know where to find EVERYTHING (Yep, you know who you are!). Well, what if there was list of things that people wanted, and you knew where find those things… AND you got a little "bounty" in return.
Pretty handy AND fun, right? We think so. Enjoy!
A Want is something you're looking for. It can be a specific item, like a "Stickshift for a 1965 El Camino", a more general item, like "a casual couch to go in this space", or even an great suggestion, like "I need the perfect shoes to go with this dress".
When you post your want, the amount you'll pay to find out where to get what you're looking for - this is called "The Bounty". Usually, the bounty is a small amount like $.50, $1.00, or maybe even $5.00. Of course, if you really need something, or you need it fast, you should consider a larger bounty, since it's going to motivate more people to start looking for you!
One more thing: You only pay the bounty when you accept a Find. Finders will post pictures and descriptions for you, so you'll have have lots of information before you make your decision!
A Find is just that - something that you've seen that you think someone else might want. You can go about this two ways, finding the exact thing someone wants, OR you might just list something interesting you've found online, or in a store, or at a flea market that you think someone might want.
When you Find something all you need to do is put up a picture, add a short description, and you're done. And best of all, it's Free to post a Find.
It's important to remember that the more descriptive your Find post is, the more likely it is the Wanter will accept it. So keep that in mind when posting your Finds. Of course, you can always edit it later to add more information.
The bounty is how much the Wanter will pay the Finder for the location of what they're looking for. If the Wanter is looking for a "Stickshift for a 1965 El Camino", and the Finder finds it at "C W Moss Auto Parts Inc in Orange, California", then the Wanter will pay the Finder a "bounty" for that information.
It's important to remember that the Find's location is hidden until the Find is accepted and the bounty is paid.
Once you post your Want, other FyndIt members will be on the hunt for your item. You'll see Find posts, which will include a picture, a description, and possibly other information like size, color, price, etc. As each matching Find is posted by others, you'll get an email so you can check them out.
When you like a Find, you press the "Accept" button, pay the bounty, and get it's location. You'll have the option to pay the bounty with your FyndIt balance or using PayPal.
Be patient! It might take a bit for the FyndIt members to help you find that special item you want.
One final note - You can post questions or comments about an item for the Finder to read. So, if you're looking for the perfect pair of shoes for an outfit, and someone posts something that looks interesting, you can ask them questions, like, "What material were those shoes made out of?"
Right after you pay the bounty, the location of the matched Find item will be visible.
If the Find is in a store or other venue, you'll get it longitude and latitude, its address (if supplied by the Finder), and any other location information the Finder might have included. FyndIt uses services like Google Places and Foursquare to find business establishments, so there's a good chance you'll be able to stroll right in and buy what you've been looking for.
If the Find is online - like an eBay, Etsy, or Amazon item - you'll get the URL for the actual item. You can then use eBay, Etsy, or Amazon to buy it, and it will soon be delivered to your front door (depending on the seller, of course).
No, you don't buy the item from the Finder (unless, of course, the Finder happens to be a store owner, or happens to own the item). In most cases, the Finder just found the item for you - it's up to you to go get it.
You may see a Find that someone else has made that you just have to have.
If the Find has a "Want It" button, you can find out where to get it by paying the Find's Want-It fee, just as you would pay a Bounty.
If a Find was originally found for a Want, the "Want-It" fee will be the original Want's bounty. If the Find was not added for a Want - it was just added to the system because someone thought it was cool - the Want-It fee is $0.50.
A Find which was originally found for a Want is availible for a Want-It if:
When you accept a Find, FyndIt will ask you to make sure it's the one you want, and if you're not sure, you should post a comment to the Find to clarify any questions you might have.
FyndIt does not at present have a refund policy for these cases. In the future, you'll be able to leave feedback on Finds, and Finders, to help them make better Finds.
Unfortunately, by the time you get to the store to check out the Find, it may already been snatched up by someone else. There's not much the Finder could do to prevent this however there are a couple of things you can do to avoid this:
There are a couple of things you can do to avoid this:
If you're a Wanter FyndIt will collect $0.05 (in addition to the bounty) from you when you accept a Find.
If you Want a Find (a "Want-It"), FyndIt will collect $0.05 (in addition to the Want-It Fee).
The first "code" check-in (geek speak for when we did the first programming) for FyndIt occurred on June 18, 2010.
Like all good ideas, the "idea" for FyndIt originated several months before that, but it took us a while to get from "idea" to "implementation".
